'Shield' Actor Michael Jace Charged In Wife's Death

Posted: Updated:
Los Angeles, CA - From Phil Shuman:

Can we ever know why ?

How does a man ''snap'' and allegedly kills his wife with their two young kids in the home ? That's just what police say happened here.

A world away from the South Los Angeles home in which she was gunned down, April Jace’s friends and colleagues at the financial aid office at Biola University in La Mirada were shocked and stunned to hear of her violent death last night. They shut down the office and went home, the school President Barry Corey telling me ‘’ April had a zeal,  a zest for life. She would stay late helping kids, mentor them.’‘She had two young boys of her own with husband Michael Jace, an actor best known for playing a cop on TV’s ‘‘The Shield’’, which ended in 2008. So he was no doubt familiar with police procedure when he called 911 about 8;30 last night and told the operator ‘’ I shot my wife . ‘‘ Stringer footage captured Jace standing in the glow of fire department rescue ambulances, in handcuffs, at 3 a.m., as he was arrested and sent of to jail. In the morning, stunned neighbors say they seemed like a happy couple, next door to them is Joan Lewis who just kept saying ‘’ they never fussed, they never fussed’. TMZ is reporting the couple was in serious financial trouble, their house upside down, but a lot of people are in that situation and don’t resort to violence. However, there were also allegations of violence from Jace’s first marriage, though there are often allegations in an emotional divorce that are not necessarily proven. Michael and Jace’s two young boys ( they both reportedly have children from previous marriages ) are now left without a mother, and presumably will be left without a father, they’re now with relatives Shocking, surprising, incredible, all of that. Tragedy intrudes on a beautiful Southern California day .

(FOX 11 / AP) Authorities say actor Michael Jace is charged with homicide after his wife was found shot to death in their home.

Local news media outlets report that city police arrived at the couple's home in the Hyde Park neighborhood around 8:30 p.m. Monday and that 40-year-old April Jace was found dead inside.

Detective Eric Crosson tells the newspaper that Michael Jace was taken into custody Monday night and arrested on a homicide charge later. Jace was in custody and unavailable for comment.

The 50-year-old Jace played a police officer in the TV series "The Shield" and had roles in "Forrest Gump" and "Planet of the Apes." The couple were married nine years and have children.

From Gigi Graciette:

"Life is good"

That's what April Jace wrote on her Facebook page under the section "About April".

Life is good.

And most likely life was good when she wrote it.

The pretty young teacher had three children and by all accounts was happily married.

The pictures she made public show her smiling; a proud mom who loved her kids. And her husband - a picture of them celebrating their tenth wedding anniversary reads "Happy anniversary to us! :-)"

So, what happened?

What happened behind the door of the pink house on Brynhurst Avenue in Hyde Park that ended in April being shot dead last night and her husband arrested, accused of killing her?

Michael Jace, April's husband is the actor who plays LA Police Officer Julien Lowe on the FX drama The Shield.

Police say it was Jace who shot his wife to death Monday evening inside their home.

The couple's two young sons in another room.

According to the LAPD, the boys told officers they had just gotten home with their mom and had been there for about ten minutes when they heard gunshots inside the house.

Whether or not they saw their mother as she lay dead in the hallway is unclear.

I sure hope they didn't.

Jace was shot multiple times in the upper body and pronounced dead at the scene, say police.

After hours of questioning, Michael Jace was arrested for murder. Police say he was "cooperative" but wouldn't say more.

The case of Jace's guilt or innocence will be played out in a court of law but right now, those two little boys have lost both their parents.

One is dead. One is in jail. And sadly, "life is good" no more.
