LOS ANGELES (CNS/Bob Decastro) - Actor Michael Jace was charged on Thursday with one count of murder for allegedly killing his wife, April, during an argument at their Hyde Park home. Jace, 51, allegedly shot his 40-year-old wife Monday night. The actor, best known for his role on the television drama "The Shield," is expected to be arraigned sometime Thursday in downtown Los Angeles.

On screen, Jace was best known for his role as a police officer in the hit TV series "The Shield." Off screen, the 51-year-old actor projected an image of a loving father and husband, which is why neighbors and now detectives are still trying to figure out why Jace would allegedly shoot and kill his wife of nearly 11 years. Police say on Monday night Jace shot his wife , April, multiple times when she returned home to their Hyde Park home with their two young sons. Jace and the neighbors called 911. Officers found April dead in the hallway.

Investigators say there were no reports of domestic violence in the home, but court documents do reveal Jace had financial problems. He filed for bankruptcy three years ago and defaulted on a mortgage. Records also show Jace had a contentious custody battle with his ex-wife over his first son. He was accused of being abusive and neglecting his child. Jace's two younger children who are both under 10 years, allegedly witnessed their mother's murder. They remain in protective custody.

Jace is being held on $1 million bail.
