Tommy Bahama Summer Kick-off Party: Grab And Go

Posted: Updated:

Gretchen Connelie, Tommy Bahama Spokesperson was here today to share tips on How to Throw the Ultimate Summer Kick-off Party!!

Delicious sun/water friendly food, fun summer time décor and a buffet display table with easy grab-and-go food that isn’t your typical backyard party fare. Your guests will love it!!

#1 Food: Serve Grab & go items – people graze at pool parties. Small portions and 2-bite items are perfect when you are hopping in and out of the pool

· Hot Dog & Sausage Station – Use your crock pot to keep hot dogs & sauerkraut & roasted onions hot & ready for when people are ready to eat them.

· Ribletts – feature ribs but instead of as a big slab, they are cut into 2 bone sections. The fact that they are pre-cooked in the oven means that they are safe to be out or just warmed up on the grill

· Grilled Chicken Wings – buy pre-cooked/pre sauced chicken wings. Heat the up on the grill and you’re ready to go. The char of the grill not only adds flavor, it makes them cleaner to eat while maintaining that great buffalo taste.

· Warm Potato Salad – If potato salad is a tradition, mix it up (and play it safe) by using a vinegar based recipe. In fact, this one is served warm at the restaurant (Crock pot?)

· Watermelon pops or melon ball “kebabs” , Pineapple Fruit Tree

· Skip the Chips – not only are veggies better for your bikini body, they don’t get soggy if some wet hands dig in. Opt instead for fresh cut veggies. Get creative – snap peas, jicama

· For dessert..Rice Crispy Treat “sandcastles”. Use sandcastle forms and fill molds with rice crispy treat when still warm. After you remove them, cover with crushed graham crackers

Décor/Display/DYI ideas

Use an old surfboard as a buffet table for food Have lots of individual sized bowls and cups. At a pool party, folks are on the go, in/out of the pool. No glass by the pool. Keep water & cone cups poolside! Guests can stay hydrated without having to get out of the water. A plastic poolside dispenser also keeps dripping folks away from the snacks Make an arch out of beach ballsUse a flip flop for the invitation. Guest gets one and when they arrive, give them the mateHave a sunscreen station so guests are encouraged to lather up oftenUse a kiddie pool filled with ice instead of a cooler for drinks – it’s festive and you can see when items need to be restockedSand pails for individual chips/popcorn, etc – invest in metal ones so you can use them year around (show a shabby chic alternative)

#2 How to get your guests involved in the party

Have a “Guacamole & Mojito Bar” with unique ingredients. Have instructions for guests to build their own creation with the 5 core ingredients + pomegranates, edamame, corn, diced pineapple, diced apples, crumbled bacon, peasBeach Blanket Bingo…..classic beach games are making a comeback on the beach and in your back yard. Have a few classic games to get the party started…bean bag toss, Horseshoes, paddle ball and rope ring toss.

Recipes:

Spiked Guacamole

  1. 1 Avocado
  2. 1 Lime - Juiced
  3. 2 Tbl Pico de Gallo
  4. ½ Tbl Green Tabasco
  5. ½ Tsp Spike Seasoning
  6. Salt & Pepper to taste

Mojito

  1. 2.5 parts Cruzan Citrus Rum
  2. 1 parts fresh lime
  3. .75 parts Depaz cane syrup
  4. 5 mint leaves

Sutter Zachman had his first record deal when he was barely out of his teens. You may have seen the Orange County native was on stage at the Largo and other hot clubs around LA. He then left town...after what he called a few "bouts" with the music business, but now he is back with a new EP called ‘Repeat Offender.'
