Political rival challenges Wayne Co. Commissioner's living situation

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) - FOX 2's M.L. Elrick was the first to expose a state representative who appeared to no longer live in his district. Now, Elrick is investigating another local lawmaker with residency issues.

Wayne County Commissioner Burton Leland lists a co-op in Detroit as his official residence, which may be why he wasn't very happy when Elrick found him 75 miles away in east Lansing.

After a political rival challenged Leland's living situation, a federal judge made a ruling on the situation on Tuesday.

Elrick reports the judge ruled he did not hear enough evidence to remove Leland, but that he would re-examine the matter if Leland's challenger, Monique Baker McCormick, brought forth more witnesses.

Both sides say, though, they'll settle this matter at the ballot box.
