91-Year Old Woman Hospitalized After Being Attacked By Swarm of Bees

Posted: Updated:

A 91- year old woman in South Florida is on the road to recovery. After being attacked by a swarm of bees and stung more than a hundred times. FOX's Brandon Beyer gives us the details.

The attack happened outside her home on Northwest 14th Street and Campanelli Drive, Tuesday, after the 91-year-old woman walked outside to check the mail.

Neighbors said they ran outside when they saw the woman laying on the ground and bees swarming around her. "First time I see anyone attacked like that," neighbor Rene Schwartz told WSVN. "She's laying on the grass crying, 'Somebody get me water. Somebody, please help me.'"

Plantation Fire Rescue tweeted a photo of firefighters hosing down the area to get rid of the bees. It is not known if the bees were living in a water meter or in a tree at the home.

Schwartz warned you should take care of hives as soon as they start forming on your property. "You have to keep a look out. If you see it, you have to take care of it as soon as you see it. Otherwise it can get to the point where you can get attacked," said Schwartz

The woman was taken to the hospital where she continues to recover.
