La Verne, CA -
(FOX 11 / CNS) A man was killed today and another person was injured in a collision between a truck and a sedan on the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway in La Verne, authorities said.
The collision, which occurred about 3:25 a.m. at Fruit Street, closed the eastbound lanes and the westbound carpool lane, California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada said.
The impact of the collision pushed a portion of the center divider into the westbound carpool lane, Posada said.
Authorities withheld the name of the fatally injured man, who was in his 30s, pending notification of his relatives. He died at the scene. The condition of the injured survivor was not immediately known. Both the fatally injured man and the injured person were in the car, the CHP reported.
About 7:40 a.m., authorities reopened all eastbound lanes except for the eastbound carpool lane, the CHP reported. The westbound carpool also remained closed while repairs were made to the center divider, Posada said. All lanes were reopened by about 8:30 a.m., the CHP reported.
Posada said the collision involved the truck, a sedan and the center divider, but exactly what happened wasn't immediately clear.
From Sandra Endo:
A fatal two vehicle accident on the eastbound 210 freeway at Fruit street leaves one man dead and another in the hospital.
California Highway Patrol says it happened around 3:30am, when a white sedan with two men inside was parked on the right shoulder of the freeway then a cement dump truck rammed into it, thrusting the sedan into the middle of the freeway.
The truck continued on and struck the center divider.
CHP officer Edmund Zorrilla says "the sedan was pulled over for some unknown reason and the truck, for some unknown reason ran into it. The driver of the sedan is deceased, the male passenger is in the hospital. The driver of the truck is on the scene with no injuries."
The accident shut down all eastbound 210 lanes at fruit and the westbound 210 HOV lane until about 7:45a this morning.
