Calls For The Resignation of the San Marino Mayor

Posted: Updated:
San Marino, CA -

The Mayor of San Marino was in the crosshairs Tuesday night of a number of angry locals who felt his actions were totally inappropriate. "What in the world were you thinking?" said Charlene Johnson who wants the mayor to step down over what was captured on surveillance video.

Philip and Irene Lao have "No Poop Zone" signs in their yard. They also have a surveillance camera. Both because of problems in the past from litterers in the neighborhood. Saturday night just after 5pm someone threw a plastic bag of dog waste in the Lao's yard. When they looked at the video it was the Mayor who did the doggy-waste-flinging while walking with his wife.

At the council meeting Irene Lao said "I'm sure you've seen the no poop sign and when you walked by last saturday you and Liz walked by ... Liz pointed at our walkway and you very clearly threw the poop bag right in the middle of our walk way. let me ask you ... is that intentional?

The mayor has said it wasn't. Even at the outset of Wednesday night's council meeting.

Kneier said "I was walking down road and improperly disposed bag of dog waste. I've absolutely regretted that action. I have apologized to the home owner. I regret that and I pologized for that and made it clear that it will never happen again."

There were a couple of people who sided with the mayor. But, even they questioned the action which Philip Lao thinks was intentional. The Mayor and Lao have had issues in the past he says.

Says Lao, "I thought it was a case of willful vandalism. Not only littering, but vandalism because ever since I put up the sign the mayor has said it looks ugly and he had wanted me to take it down."

Says the Mayor, "I have apologized to the property owner on which the bag ended up. I have great regret and apologize for that that it will never happen again. Also, I should let the audience know that I have received a citation from the city, an infraction and I'll have to pay the fine or talk about it at court."
