Bees Swarm Couples' Connecticut Apartment

Posted: Updated:
Hartford, CT-A Hartford, Connecticut couple is dealing with a swarm of bees inside their home.

Ayesha and Maurice Smith say they’ve been dealing with the bees for three years, and their complaints to property management have gone unheard until now.

Exterminators who are looking into the infestation are finding thousands of bees in the ceiling and lots of honey.

"It was like National Geographic literally, the situation was in our home," said Ayesha. "As soon as the season gets warm, spring time comes, they come."

The couple says everything they tried failed.

"They just kept getting in the house, somehow the bees would get in the house, even though we closed the shutters and the windows," said Maurice.

"It was like, every day we were killing like 2 or 3 different bees and they were getting bigger and bigger as we were killing them," said Ayesha. "We could start a honeycomb or a honey factory. Seriously, it's bad."

Maurice said even the exterminator was overwhelmed.

"They came and they were overwhelmed. They opened one little crack in the ceiling and honey was dripping out, honeycombs everywhere. They were overwhelmed. The guys were drenched in honey," said Maurice.

The property management company had little to say about the problem, but did say this: "The same exterminator company comes out every year," said Property Manager Linda Reeves.

The exterminators believe the bees got in through air vents on the side of the apartment.
