Police: Screws Found In The Bottom Of Slides At Illinois Park

Posted: Updated:

Oak lawn, IL-Police say the search is on for a suspect who allegedly attached screws to slides at an Illinois Park .

Police in Oak Lawn say they found 10 screws. According to authorities, someone screwed them into the bottom of two slides.

Luckily, no children were hurt. However, police say the metal could have seriously injured children playing on the slides.

"There were eight screws in one slide, two in the other slide. They screwed them into the bottom of the slide and snapped off the heads, so there was a protrusion of metal,” said Oak Lawn Park District Official Joe Craig. "It was very evident it was a deliberate act to cause harm."

Residents are shocked.

"It's out of the ordinary, but it's a safe park, we come here often, three times a week almost. I haven't seen anything like this before. I'm shocked, actually," said father Mohamed Homsi.

As a precaution, the park district says it is checking the equipment every day.
