Oheka owner talks about recovery from shooting, media coverage

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Gary Melius was shot four months ago. The owner of Oheka Castle in Suffolk County, Long Island, has made a very strong recovery but says he is still struggling to figure out who would want him dead. He says he didn't know what hit him and that he felt dizzy and in pain and was bleeding a lot.

The influential developer remembers vividly the afternoon of February 24 when he was shot in his car right outside his estate. What he doesn't know is who was behind the attack. The gunman that day was wearing a mask. The motive remains a mystery.

Suffolk County police have now released photos of a light-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee, which they say the suspect was driving. Melius says he doesn't recognize the vehicle.

The suspect fired three shots. One hit Melius in the back of the head. His left eye was badly injured by shattered class from the car window, but has healed well from surgery.

Melius, a big-time donor to all political parties, says the media coverage of his shooting unfairly represented his business and political dealings. He says he is still bitter about how he was treated since the shooting.

As for the shooting itself, he remains confident police will find those responsible.
