Posted: Updated:

STROUDSBURG, PA- A World War II vet proves it's never too late to go back to school.

87-year-old George Bush received his high school diploma Thursday at Stroudsburg High School.

This achievement was 69 years in the making.

Bush was part of the school's class of 1945, but left for war before his high school graduation.

Now Bush finally got to fulfill his life-long dream with a standing ovation from the audience.

"At that time in life there, it wasn't really that important, so you just do what you have to do," said Bush

"He just said to my mother, 'I wonder if I could get my diploma,'" said Bush's daughter Diane Knowles, "he's my dad. He's a good guy. He always did for his family. He never wanted anything in return, just to make us happy."

Bush had jumped around from job to job after the World War II, doing whatever he could without his diploma.

"I was a factory maintenance man, auto mechanic, anything that I needed to do to make a buck," Bush Explained.

Bush got the idea of getting a diploma when he saw a fellow veteran get his on TV.
