Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels on plans to bring story to Broadway

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - It's in the early stages, but legendary hip-hop artist Darryl McDaniels, the 'DMC' of 'Run DMC,' is planning to bring his life story to Broadway.

“At the age of 35 I found out I was adopted. It was a big shocker. Then I found out I was a foster kid. I went to therapy. In the midst of all that desperation I thought about all the things I had. I had a chance to express myself," said McDaniels.

The Hollis, Queens native would go on to express himself through music in a wildly successful career. He decided he'd help other children by joining forces with the Garden Of Dreams Foundation.

"There are kids in NYC facing huge obstacles… we take these kids and we give them opportunities. We let them express themselves through the arts,” said McDaniels.

The artist who is on the road 20 days out of the month, takes time out to every year to help coordinate the The Garden of Dreams show taking place June 17 at Radio City Music Hall.

The song and dance show is free and begins at 7 p.m. 

"Even if they don’t grow up to be entertainers just giving them the opportunity to express themselves…is huge, " said McDaniels.

    Fans of the Star Wars franchise are getting another peek at the latest film courtesy of director J.J. Abrams. Abrams, shooting in “sunny London,” posted a video on Omaze plugging his “Force for Change” fundraiser to benefit UNICEF.  In the video, Abrams displays the new X-Wing Fighter being used on the set for Star Wars: Episode VII.
