Chicago ecstatic over Team USA's win against Ghana

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

It was the first 2014 World Cup soccer game for the U.S. and crowds could not have been happier.

Even before the big win, U.S. fans had faith in their team.

“I believe that we will win,” said one fan.

Katherine and Erik said that they’ve been waiting for this moment for the past 4 years.

“I'm very excited… I believe that they will make it out of the group stage,” added another fan.

With a jumbo screen set up in Grant Park for fans to watch the game, some say it’s just as good or better than being in Brazil.

“This is the first best place to watch the game, not 2nd. You can't go wrong with Chicago. Everyone is a true fan here and we love it,” said another fan.

A sea of red, white and blue all coming together to support one nation and one team.

Ghana had beat the U.S. the past two World Cups, but this year it’s a very different story. The U.S. scored the first point within 60 seconds of the game, and fans went wild.

“Oh man, we were so excited, we were going crazy,” said a fan.

Fans are thrilled, and are hoping the U.S. team continues their journey eventually winning the Cup.

The next game is June 22 against Portugal.
