TEMPE, Ariz. - Authorities say a man and a woman are in custody for allegedly breaking into a group home in Tempe.

Tempe police say 31-year-old John Furfaro and 29-year-old Candice Hough are being held on suspicion of second-degree burglary.

Police say the break-in occurred around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Furfaro and Hough allegedly tried to elude police by fleeing the area on a motorcycle and driving to a Walmart store near Rural and Southern where they changed clothes.

Police put the store on lockdown after the suspects ran inside the building.

"Anytime they go into a crowded environment or a crowded place, it's always concerning because we don't know what's in their mindset.. if they're gonna try to do something to harm somebody or if they're gonna do anything they can to get away," said Lt. Mike Pooley of the Tempe Police Department.

Police say Furfaro and Hough also had outstanding warrants for their arrest and Furfaro also was found in possession of heroin and methamphetamine.

It was unclear Wednesday afternoon if either Furfaro or Hough had attorneys yet.
