Hundreds Of New Emojis On The Way

Posted: Updated:

Computers gave us smartphones, which made lightning-fast communication like e-mail seem ordinary leading our parents and grandparents and friends no matter where they live or what they do to expect all of us to stay in touch at all times.

"People have so many thoughts and feelings they want to express," says Seth Porges, a tech journalist and app creator.

And a keyboard of smiley faces, and whales, and crying cats somehow allowed us to plug into communication on steroids.

without speaking or even typing words and using just one image your significant other could suddenly say "I feel a little bad for reminding you for a third time to take out the trash but it's also something you need to do. Thanks! Love ya!"

"If you can string together a couple little animated pictures using emoji, you can express really deep complex thoughts in ways that are really difficult when you type out text messages," Porges said.

But as Porges points out pigs and bombs and spicy salsa dancers soon left us unimpressed.

"People have been demanding additions to the emoji catalogue for some time," he says.

And finally the mysterious Unicode Consortium obliged adding 250 new emojis including bullhorn with sound waves, lightning mood bubble, oncoming fire truck and reversed hand with middle finger extended.

"The next big-hit emoji is going to be a levitating, flying business man," Porges says. "I'm not sure what it means, but you know people are going to find a way to use this."

"Raise the roof," say texters everywhere applauding the additions to the emoji language.

New emojis represent the hottest addition to your cellphone since this disgusting little thing: the poop emoji.

And evidently, that's worth toasting?
