Posted: Updated:
Five police officers and a suspect are rushed to the hospital after a bust at a rare DMT drug lab in Van Nuys.  It's a hallucinogen made from the mimosa plant often used on college campuses. The officers were treated for potential exposure to hazardous material.

The call came in around 10:00pm Sunday night on the 14800 block of west Sherman Way. Officers found a naked man screaming inside his apartment were they also found drug paraphernalia and chemicals.

Battalion chief Andrew Wordin said "we had LAPD units respond to an unconscious person in the apartment.  When they arrived on the scene they found some sort of lab. So we evacuated the area and called for a full hazardous materials response. "

The officers and the suspect were rushed to the hospital. He added, "as far as I know nobody was unconscious."

The officers and the suspect were treated and released.  Residents who were evacuated overnight were able to return in the early morning hours. The suspect is being charged with manufacturing drugs.
