Ypsilanti Police investigating attempted child abduction

YPSILANTI, Mich. (WJBK) -  Police in Ypsilanti say they are investigating an attempted child abduction.

Police say a man driving a pick up truck attempted to abduct a 15-year-old girl at the corner of Oak and Vought streets. Luckily, she knew what to do and how to get away.

"I coach wrestling and she remembered the little turn the wrist trick out and, you know, broke free and ran," says Ken Clark.

It happened June 17 around 4 p.m.

We're told the man started driving next to her as she walked home from work. First he asked her if she wanted a ride, and then asked if she wanted some drugs.

"'Hey, you want a ride? I got marijuana, crack, whatever you need.' And she's like, 'No, no,' and just started walking and then she said he pulled up. She went to look at him and he was already out of vehicle and on her quick," Clark says.

Clark says the man quickly parked, got out tried to grab his daughter and pull her into his truck but she twisted her wrist, broke his grasp and took off running down Forest Avenue. She was able to wave down a school bus driver who called police.

"Terrified. She is 15 and a beautiful little blonde girl. I mean, the thought of her being gone is just, I mean, that's why I've been working with her trying to figure out what this guy looks like and his truck," he says.

Through their investigation and help from the victim, police were able to get a description of the suspect.

Apparently he stopped at the Boggs gas station around the corner on North Prospect.

He is described as a white man in his 50s with gray hair. The silver Ford F-150 truck he was driving was caught on surveillance.

"He didn't speak. I greet everybody when they come in the door and he didn't respond to anything, just gave me his money for his gas and he was gone," says Rob Rice, who remembers ringing him up.

"I'm worried for all the other kids. I mean, there's 100 kids a day that play at that park," says Clark.
