Special Needs Child Kicked Out of Theater

Posted: Updated:

Destiny Schuers is a special needs child who struggles with a long list of different disorders and issues, but right now the whole family is dealing with what they describe as discrimination against the 10-year-old.

At the Puente Hills AMC 20 where they allege theater management said the little girl was making a disturbance during a Monday night movie and gave the whole family the boot!

"She wasn't causing a disturbance. She was laughing," says Destiny's mom Marji who is really upset. She's a special ed teacher and special olympics coach. She adopted Destiny about 2 years ago and says to mainstream the child she needs to be able to do what other kids do and being singled as she was wasn't right. "I felt she was not doing anything inappropriate. Her laughing might have been delayed because she was laughing to the rest of the patron

In a statement AMC says:

"To ensure that everyone can enjoy the movie, we ask that guests respect those around them, and refrain from disruptive behavior. The manager explained our policy about making noise that disrupts others during the movie. At that time the guest asked for a refund, which was provided."

Destiny's mom says the theater manager was rude and never gave them a warning and on top of that Destiny, she reminds us, was just laughing. "He asked me again if I couldn't keep her quiet that we would be asked to leave and I said that she wasn't a dog and I couldn't put a muzzle on her and keep her quiet. At which time he escorted us out."

The whole incident has rocked the family. Destiny's sister Cavanna says "Now I feel when I go to the movies i can't take my sisters or when I do I feel like I have to be watching over her to make sure she is not laughing. and Its not a feeling I should have when I go out to have a good time with my family."
