David Needs A Mission Control Team To Bring Him Home

Posted: Updated:
During Summer 2012, we asked you to suspend your disbelief as you came along to a dragon-themed circus to meet David (2005), a young boy who at the time was into Spiderman, Hot Wheels cars and the magic of flying dragons. It’s now two years later, and David’s fascination with vehicles and things that fly through the air not only remain but have developed into a more advanced interest – vehicles that propel man into space! David still hasn’t landed in a permanent home, so we decided to join him for an endeavor at the California Science Center and a tour of the Space Shuttle Endeavour.

As we traversed through the museum on a private tour led by aerospace scientist Dr. Ken, it was often David who was able to share information on predecessor space vehicles leading up to the showcase orbiter. Based on his long standing fascination with vehicles and things that fly through the air and his more recently acquired interest in and knowledge about space exploration, it would be no surprise if David made a course correction in career aspirations from two years ago when he wanted to be a cop to consider becoming an aerospace engineer and help further the exploration of the final frontier.

For the here and now, though, David needs a “mission control team” that will love and accept him for who he is as well as help make his launches and landings safe ones. And while the Space Shuttle Endeavour has found its permanent home at the California Science Center, the search continues to identify the right place that David can call his forever home.

Recently, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Rolf M. Treu ruled that teacher tenure statutes -- violate the California state constitution. In the landmark case "Vergara v. California," Judge Treu held that tenure makes it almost impossible to fire incompetent teachers.
