Man Shot By OC Deputy During Home Disturbance

Posted: Updated:
Ladera Ranch, CA - (FOX 11 / CNS) An Orange County sheriff's deputy shot a man during a "disturbance" at a Ladera Ranch residence, authorities said today.

The deputy-involved shooting occurred about 10:25 p.m. Sunday at a residence on Sansovino near Vecchio, said Orange County sheriff's Lt. Jeff Hallock. The deputy, who was responding "during a disturbance," was not injured, Hallock said.

The suspect was transported to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, where his condition was not immediately reported, the lieutenant said. The shooting was under investigation, he said.

The shooting occurred at a condominium complex called Covenant Hills, where neighbors heard a couple fighting before deputies arrived, heard someone shout "put the gun down, put the gun down," then heard three shots, a news videographer reported from the scene.

From Sandra Endo:

An investigation is underway after a deputy involved shooting in Ladera Ranch. A 29 year old man was transported to a nearby hospital after being shot by a sheriff's deputy at a condo complex on Vecchio and Sansovino. It happened around 10:25p Sunday after Orange County deputies responded to a domestic disturbance.

Neighbors reportedly heard a couple fighting before deputies arrived and heard someone shout, "put the gun down, put the gun down" before three shots rang out. Deputies would not confirm the account, all Orange County sheriffs lieutenant Jeff Hallock would say is, "a 29 year old male suspect did get transported to the hospital as a result of injuries from the deputy involved shooting."

No deputies were injured, the condition of the suspect is unknown but deputies expect the man to be released from the hospital this morning.
