US 30 closed in NW Indiana for power line and traffic light repairs

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A portion of U.S. 30 in northwest Indiana was closed to traffic Wednesday night for emergency power line and traffic light repairs, likely affecting the Thursday morning commute.

Traffic in both directions was diverted off U.S. 30 between I-65 and U.S. 41 about 10 p.m., Indiana State Police Cpl Mike Jones said.

Lanes were not scheduled to reopen until 10 a.m. Thursday while NIPSCO repairs downed power lines and INDOT crews work to fix traffic signals overnight, Jones said.

Jones said crews would attempt to work quickly throughout the night to open the roadway ahead of schedule.

It's been months since the last snowflake fell, but Chicago residents are still hitting potholes that make your teeth chatter. Which is why one Southside resident was puzzled when construction crews began repaving a road that virtually no one uses.
