Covina Police Search For Sexual Battery Suspect

Posted: Updated:
Covina, CA -

(FOX 11) A would-be rapist assaults a woman outside her Covina apartment, but the victim fights back, and her attacker is caught on camera. Local police hope someone will ID the suspect.

From Gigi Graciette:

It was June 30th,

4:39 in the morning and security cameras were rolling at the apartment complex on the 1300 block of West San Bernardino Road in Covina.

The cameras capturing the moment a 28 year old woman returned home, on foot. What she didn't know at the time was, she was being followed.

A man is seen running in thru the open gate, right behind her. He then stops to put a yellow bandana over his face. Another camera in the complex then captures him running behind her again.

And that's when, police say, he attacked her, in an area cameras weren't rolling.

"He put his hand over her mouth", Sgt. Rob Bobkiewicz told me. "He then began groping her breasts and crotch area. Then he threw her to the ground."

She fought back, biting the suspect's finger - very hard, she told police - forcing him to let her go and then he ran off.

"We don't know if he lives in the area or was just out stalking women", says the Sgt.

There is one last shot of the suspect on that surveillance tape.

He's seen running away; jumping over the gate, he falls to the ground and then disappears into the night.

What won't disappear are the bad memories he left behind; the terror he inflicted on that poor woman.

If you know who this guy is or have any information that could help detectives, please call the Covina Police Department at (626)384-5595.

From the Covina Police Department:

On June 30 at 0439 hours, we had a sexual battery take place in our city. The suspect followed a woman as she walked into her apartment complex and covered her mouth with his hand. He then proceeded to grope her breasts and put his hands between her legs as she was pushed to the ground by the suspect.

The female victim was able to bite the suspects finger as she said very hard and he ran away. We have obtained video footage as the victim walked into the complex and the suspect followed her in on foot. The video depicts the suspect stopping and putting on a mask before he assaults her.

The video does not show the attack but does show the suspect running away and jumping the complex fence. We are hoping one of your viewers would be able to identify the suspect.

Thank you,
Rob Bobkiewicz
