Teacher Tenure Statutes

Recently, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Rolf M. Treu ruled that teacher tenure statutes -- violate the California state constitution.

In the landmark case "Vergara v. California," Judge Treu held that tenure makes it almost impossible to fire incompetent teachers.

The judge stated in his decision, that because of tenure "a significant number of grossly ineffective teachers are currently active in California classrooms."

I'd like to hear your Point of View. Send me an email at POV@fox11.com.

As a result, California students are deprived of a quality education. Therefore, Judge Treu found that state tenure laws are unconstitutional and should be considered null and void.

However, tenure will remain in force for years if the Vergara decision is appealed.

California students should not have to wait. Their education is too important.

California Attorney General Kamala Harris: You should not appeal this ruling. Don't waste taxpayer money by tying this up in court.

California Teachers Association: You claim you are for the children.

Then do the right thing and don't appeal this decision.

Irrespective of any appeal – Governor Brown, and the state legislature should act now to repeal all state teacher tenure statutes. They have the power to do so.

The time has come for our state politicians to put the education of our students first, before the political contributions of teacher unions.

In the words of Judge Treu, state tenure statutes are a "shock to the conscience."

They should be wiped off the books.

Thanks for listening.
