MONTGOMERY, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 21-year-old man jumped into the Fox River early Tuesday after he was pulled over by police in west suburban Montgomery.

Alexander H. Oglesby, of the 800 block of View Street in Aurora, was pulled over after he disobeyed a traffic control device a few minutes before 1 a.m., according to a statement from Montgomery police.

During the traffic stop, Oglesby ran away from the officers and jumped off the Ashland Avenue Bridge into the Fox River, police said.

The officers watched Oglesby float down the river before he was rescued by a fisherman, police said.

Oglesby was arrested on two outstanding traffic warrants out of Aurora and Kane County for driving on a suspended license, police said. He was also cited for disobeying a traffic control device, driving while license suspended, no valid insurance and attempting to obstruct justice.

He made “several suicidal statements” and was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, police said.

Oglesby is next scheduled to appear in Aurora Branch Court on Aug. 20.
