PHOENIX (KSAZ) - A 13-year-old girl nearly drowned at a home near 51st Avenue and Baseline on Monday morning.

Phoenix Fire Capt. Mark Vanacore says the teen had some sort of medical event while she was swimming.

Bystanders were able to quickly get the girl out of the pool and give CPR until she began breathing on her own. She was reportedly in full respiratory and cardiac arrest at one point.

Vanacore says she was responding to paramedics when they arrived.

She was taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital in serious condition for further evaluation.
