Passengers Arriving at LAX from Hawaii Talk of Hurricane Preparations

Posted: Updated:

As the first of two hurricanes barrel toward Hawaii, there are a lot of people landing at LAX in LA tonight quite happy that they got out before the storms. But, others who need to get home and frustrated they can't get across the Pacific. People like Betty Wong who told me “We need to get home to our children. They're out of water paper goods and things of that sort."

Then there are the tourists who left the islands and arrived here in LA on flights like United 8118. They say lots of people, stores and hotels were getting ready…

Caroline Vogt from Germany says “We were staying at the hotel and they gave us information sheets that they will remove the chairs from the balconies and that we should stay in the hotel and not go outside.”

“The hotels were stocking up with food and all," says Rob Beck from the East Coast. He says he "didn't see any panic. And, they were pretty relaxed actually.”)

Heidi Allen, from Los Angeles says “The agencies around were saying to get 7 days of food and water for people that were staying there.”

Jason Fenton, from London, still has a long trip to England, but while in LA he told me he saw “People stocking up. Trolleys full of food and stuff like that."

Leslie Beck said “there were some boarded windows toward Honolulu, but we were out in Koalina and there was no boarding of windows.”)(Leslie Beck)

Steven Singer, of New York, said it was really pretty Wednesday night, but “as we flew out of Honolulu it was pretty interesting to look out to the side of the plane and see the humongous storm system out there."

Back to Caroline Vogt said the idea of the hurricanes coming was a little scary and Rob Beck said he was glad to out of there adding "

(I don't need to ride out the storm. I'm happy to be in LA.”
