(FOX 11 / CNS) A 59-year-old man was in custody today on suspicion of shooting and killing his wife at the Sylmar home they lived in for at least 25 years, police said.

The 45-year-old victim was shot multiple times around 9 p.m. Monday at the home in the 14000 block of Herron Street, Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Paul Vernon said.

The shooting was reported by the son of the victim and suspect, Vernon said.

The victim was found in the living room, Vernon said. The suspect was found lying on a mattress in a bedroom, with a loaded .45-caliber Colt pistol on a nearby table and a handwritten note next to it.

The suspect told officers he had been drinking heavily, Vernon said.
