WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) - Warren Mayor Jim Fouts has declared a state of emergency after the city experienced severe flooding after Monday rainstorms. Hundreds of vehicles have been abandoned in the city.

The Mayor also says a woman was found dead in her vehicle, which was standing in about 3 feet of water. He says cardiac arrest appears to be the cause at this time. Investigators are working to determine what exactly caused the death.

Several drivers near the Red Run drain near 13 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue became stranded. Some even had to be removed from their vehicles by rescue crews. They were taken to Buddy's Pizza and the Lowe's in the area before being taken to the Warren Community Center. They took refuge there until the waters had receded.

Fouts says he plans to call the state Tuesday to request aid.

The National Weather Service said 5.2 inches of rain fell Monday in Warren.
