Sutter Zachman: Just Sort Of Following My Idols

Posted: Updated:

Sutter Zachman had his first record deal when he was barely out of his teens. You may have seen the Orange County native was on stage at the Largo and other hot clubs around LA. He then left town...after what he called a few "bouts" with the music business, but now he is back with a new EP called ‘Repeat Offender.'

Fun facts about Sutter Zachman: (Source: SutterZachman.com)

1) As a teenager, Zachman garnered attention with the rootsy U.S. Mail Band, whose trippy country cover of Duran Duran's “Rio” was spun on Los Angeles' tastemaker radio station KCRW. In the years to come, Zachman performed at Largo and other hotspots and made numerous recordings before leaving L.A. to, as he puts it, “recover from a series of bouts with the music industry.”

2) He studied the songwriting secrets of old masters like Nick Lowe, Van Morrison and Gene Clark and developed a sound all his own while working odd jobs in small towns across the country, from Lawrence, Kansas to Palm Desert, California.

3) That dreaminess is in full effect on “Back to Sleep,” the first single from his forthcoming EP on Modern Roots Music. Produced by Jimmy Sloan (Blind Boys of Alabama, Fishbone), the track swirls around Zachman's hypnotic vocals, buoyed by an unlikely blend of funky guitar, Cameron Meshell's sleepy drums and Angela Russell's sultry violin.

Sutter Zachman's new EP "Repeat Offender" comes out tomorrow... it will be available in all the usual places.

Sutter is in concert Wednesday night, September 3rd at 8 o'clock at the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood.
